Quake 3 LogoIn previous tutorial I described the process of creating the Quake 4 logo. In this tutorial I will describe how to create the logo for Quake 3.

Create a new document (Ctrl+N) 200×200px with the black background in Photoshop. Create the new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and make selection 183×53px in the upper side of the canvas with the help of the Rounded Marquee tool (M). After that fill the selection white and deselect (Ctrl+D).

Ellpse

Now make a new selection approximately 172×33 inside the ellipse upwards of the middle and click Del. Deselect (Ctrl+D).

Ellipse1

Now make another new selection which is a little bigger than the initial one. Make it a bit lower. Invert the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I) and click Del. Deselect (Ctrl+D).

Ellipse2

Next select Eraser tool (E) and erase the upper part of the ellipse, leaving the edges at about 40px.

Ellipse3

Now select Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and make two selections of 9px with an interval of 9px, then click Del. Then Deselect (Ctrl+D).

2-holes

Now make a selection in the shape of triangle from the central rectangle up to the top of the canvas using Polygon Lasso tool (L).

Top

Fill it with white, then duplicate this layer (Ctrl+J), then flip it vertical (Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical). After that move the triangle lower using Move tool (M). Merge two layers (Ctrl+E).

Bottom

Now make a selection in the shape of triangle using Polygon Lasso tool (L). Make the width the same as the central triangle, the height 20px less. Draw it beginning from one of the edges of the ellipse. Paint it white and deselect.

image 1

Draw the same triangle from the other side.

image 2

Now go to the Blending Options(Layer>Layer Style>Blending Options) and set the following parameters:

Gradient-Overlay

Gradient-Editor

Inner-Shadow

Inner-Glow

That’s all – here’s your final result:

Another thing…Why is my line not such nice as yours… When I duplicate the layer my photo and lines get deformed.
