Flower on the Water
In this photoshop tutorial I’ll show you how to create a water reflection. We used a flower as an object being reflected in this tutorial.
Step 1.
Open a photo with a flower. Choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool and draw the flower out.
Step 2.
Create a new document without background and drag the flower in it holding Ctrl (call this layer “Flower”).
Step 3.
Create a new layer (call it “Water”). Choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a rectangle like shown in the pic.2. Apply Filter > Render > Clouds (use Hue/Saturation to your liking). Press Ctrl+D and drag the “Water” layer under the “Flower” layer.
Step 4.
Choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool and draw the lower part of the flower out. Apply Layer > New > Layer via Cut (Shft+Ctrl+J) and set the opacity -> 50%.
Step 5.
Choose the “Water” layer. Choose the Elliptical Marquee Tool and create an ellipse like shown in the pic.3. Apply Filter > Distort > ZigZag with the following settings: Amount->60%; Ridges->6; Style-> Around center.
Step 6.
Now add a dark sky. And that’s it.
Photo Borders
In this article I’ll show you how to make different styles of photo borders using different filters.
Step 1.
Open the photo. Go to channels pallete and create a new channel (Alfa 1).
Step 2.
Choose Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a rectangle. Then apply Select > Inverse; and Edit > Fill…(use: White).
Step 3.
Apply Select > Deselect and then apply Filter > Pixelate > Color Halfone (choose parameters yourself).
Step 4.
Go to RGB channel and apply Select > Load Selection… (use: Alfa 1). Then apply Edit > Fill… (use background).
There are several examples using different filters:
Filter > Brush Strokes > Sprayed Strokes
Filter > Distort > Ripple
Filter > Scetch > Water Paper
Filter > Texture > Stained Glass.
And that’s it.
Bullet Holes on the Metal Surface
In this article I’ll tell you how to make realistic bullet holes on the metal surface.
Step 1.
Create a new 250X250 pixels document with black background. Create a new layer.
Step 2.
Choose the Brush Tool and draw the circle with unequal borders with light-grey colour (b7b7b7). Set the diameter of the Brush Tool 100 pixels and draw a big point in the center of the circle with dark grey colour. Choose the diameter 19 pixels and draw the black “hole” in the center with unequal borders like shown:
Step 3.
Choose the Dodge Tool (with the parameters: Range->Highlights; Exposure->20%) and draw several lines from the border to the center.
Step 4.
Miniaturize your document and now drag the bullet hole into the metal surface. And that’s it.
Background Color
In this Photoshop tutorial we will tell you how to change a background colour of the photo.
Step 1.
Open the photo where you want to change a background color.
Step 2.
Press Quick Mask Mode (Q) and choose the Brush Tool (B).
Step 3.
Fill the background by the Brush Tool like in the picture one.
Step 4.
Press Standart Mode (Q) and apply Select > Inverse (Shift+Ctrl+I).
Step 5.
Apply Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation (Ctrl+U) and choose the colour you want. See how you changed the background color of the photo using Photoshop 7.
And that’s it.
Metal Effect
Let us create a metal effect at the picture of the horse.
After reading the Photoshop tutorial you will be able to apply the metal effect on any photo.
Step 1.
Choose the necessary part of image by Lasso (L) tool and copy into the new layer (Ctrl+J). In our case there are the mane and the horse-tail. And then turn on the flag Lock transparent pixels in the palette Layers.
Turn off the Background layer. Then press Ctrl+Shift+U for discolouring the image.
Step 2.
You have to use two filters - one after another. The first, Filter > Noise > Median with Radius 3 pixels. It is necessary for cleaning small “rubbish” from our image, and the surface will be more smooth. The second, Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with Radius 3,5 pixels. By changing this meaning you can regulate lines and bends flow.
Step 3.
Make a new layer for regulating curves Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves, and make your curve like the curve in the picture.
Step 4.
Press “Ok” and look at your image. Don’t you like it? Then you have to make the copy of our Adjustment Layer by dragging it to the Create New Layer icon of Layers window.
And the last
Step 5.
Choose Layer > Merge Visible or press Ctrl+Shift+E, and turn on the Background layer.
The image is ready! See how you applied a metal effect on the photo using Photoshop 7:
Pencil Drawing
The method imparting photo to a pencil drawing using Photoshop is described in this tutorial. Try to use photos with degraded background and large objects in the foreground with legible contour for reaching maximum effect. You must degrade the background by filter Gaussian Blur, if your photos have legible background.
As an example I will use the photo of a sportsman. The drawing size - 508X764.
Step 1.
Make a copy of the layer with drawing by dragging it on the icon “Create a New Layer” on Layers. Press Crtl+Shift+U for desatureting drawing on the upper layer. Apply Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges with the meaning Edge Width - 1, Edge Brightness - 11, Smoothness - 5 in this layer. Regulate Levels [Ctrl+L] in such a way as to highlight the maximum of the significant lines of drawing.
Step 2.
Press Ctrl+I for inverting drawing on the current layer. Apply Filter > Artistic > Cut Out with the meanings No. of Levels - 7, Edge Simplicity - 3, Edge Fidelity - 3. Regulate Levels [Ctrl+L] as shown:
Step 3.
Make a copy of the current layer by dragging it on the icon “Create a New Layer” on Layers. Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with the meaning Radius - 5 pixels by new layer. In Layers set the blending mode ‘Screen’ for this layer and set Opacity - 50%. Press Ctrl+G for groupping it with the lower layer. Attention! Before pressing Ctrl+G activate the main drawing. Well, we have an interesting pencil drawing:
Step 4.
Now, let’s add colours to the photo. Switch over the second (pencil) layer and set The blending mode ‘Overlay’ for this layer. Switch over the Background layer and apply Filter > Noise > Median with the meaning Radius 5 pixels for imitating water-colour. And that’s it. See how you created a pencil drawing from the photo using Adobe Photoshop 7.
